there's gotta be more to life than chasing down every temporary high to satisfy me

Hollywood Anorexia

I was watching The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last week. Hilary Duff was his guest. She was wearing this floral tube dress top. I don't really remember what she was wearing. I was too focused on how thin she had become.

I loved Hilary in Lizzie Maguire. She was super adorable. But, seeing her on Jay Leno, I wonder what happened to that sweet-looking girl. I know I know, she's not some Barbie doll that remains sweet-looking forever. But, what the eff?! She looks like she has been munching on nothing but parsley for a year. Her cheeks are hollow. Her bright eyes have become deep-set. Her clavicle is protruding by an inch. She looks like a skeletal specimen in Biology class, much like the lovely but equally-skeletal Mischa Barton.

We've seen it before with Christina Ricci. Hilary's case shouldn't have come as a surprise. What's up with those Hollywood stars, anyway? They're famous! They've talent! So, why torture themselves by starving to stay within a certain weight range? Are they not confident enough? Could they not see Queen Latifah? Or Jennifer Lopez, at least?

In the movie The Truth about Cats and Dogs, Noelle [Uma Thurman] explains to Abby [Janeane Garofalo] that even though models appear lusty, inside, they are hollow. They are empty because they are deprived of the better things in life, i.e. delicious satisfying meals. In their obssession to being conceived as sexy, they, most of the time, end up anorexic or bulimic.

Thank God I'm over the thin-is-in belief. Voluptous is gorgeous, baby!^_^

sleeps with butterflies ~ tori amos

Airplanes take you away again
Are you flying
Above where we live?
Then I look up a glare in my eyes
Are you having regrets about last night?
I'm not but I like rivers that rush in
So then I dove in
Is there trouble ahead
For you the acrobat?
I won't push you unless you have a net

You say the word
You know I will find you
Or if you need some time
I don't mind
I don't hold on
To the tail of your kite
I'm not like the girls that you've known
But I believe I'm worth coming home to
Kiss away night
This girl only sleeps with butterflies
With butterflies
So go on and fly then boy

Balloons
Look good from on the ground
I fear with pins and needles around
We may fall then stumble
Upon a carousel
It could take us anywhere

You say the word
You know I will find you
Or if you need some time
I don't mind
I don't hold on
To the tail of your kite
I'm not like the girls that you've known
But I believe I'm worth coming home to
Kiss away night
This girl, this girl

You say the word
You know I will find you
Or if you need some time
I don't mind
I don't hold on
To the tail of your kite
I'm not like the girls that you've known
But I believe I'm worth coming home to
Kiss away night
This girl only sleeps with butterflies
With butterflies
With butterflies
So go on and fly boy
