Life in Puerto Galera is idyllic. It is my dream retirement.
We stayed in this bahay kubo (nipa hut) without air conditioning, fluorescent lighting, appliances, not even comfy beds. The hut stands in a mango plantation so the natural breeze eased us. There were huge capiz windows that let natural light illuminate every corner of the room in the day and the yellow bulb provided cozy lighting at night. A lone electric fan supported the breeze. Comforters were all we needed to lie on. It is amazing how people forget to be fussy when drunk.
Routine included waking up, chipping in for food, marketing for food, cooking breakfast, eating breakfast, going to the beach, climbing the wall, basking in the sun, cooking lunch, drinking with no limit, getting drunk, dozing off, waking up, cooking dinner, eating dinner, drinking with no limit, getting drunk, then finally calling it a night. Of course, non-stop smoking. Ayayay, I think my lungs blackened by 30% after that.
These we did for two days. Ayyy... the life.
